The teenage boy was shot around 9 p.m., Sunday, March 20 in New Haven, on Orchard Place, between Orchard Street and Charles Street.
Responding officers located the victim, who had been struck by gunfire, said Officer Scott Shumway, of the New Haven Police Department.
American Medical Response transported the victim to Yale New Haven Hospital where he died from his injuries, Shumway said.
Police have not released the name of the victim, a New Haven resident, who was a junior at Hillhouse High School, Shumway said.
The school released a statement to the community regarding his passing. It said in part:
“We are saddened to share the unexpected passing of a Hillhouse High School junior. The school crisis team has been activated to support students and staff as needed. We extend our condolences to the family and friends at this time.”
Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are leading the investigation.
